About Youth programs

Artist engagements and workshops primarily geared towards public school, private school, independent school, and homeschool youth in grades K-12 with Pre-K options available upon request. Most engagements are available as SINGLE sessions, a SERIES of sessions, or an AFTERSCHOOL program

Pre-Packaged Artist Engagements for K-12

Art For Our Resilience

Duration 1-2 hours

Using various visual and literary mediums, this workshop encourages participants to create art that embodies an emotion (or several) that individual participants are grappling with, allowing for creative catharsis as an alternative outlet to negative behavior and thought pattern.

Best for grades: 4-12

Art for Youth Voice

Duration 1-2 hours

Art is central to social change and personal growth. Youth will practice finding and using their voice through the arts. Learning together from others who have come before us, we will explore how artists have always used their art to speak up for themselves and for others. 

Best for grades: 5-12

Look, Listen, Paint

Duration: 1-2 hours

A multidisciplinary, mindfulness-based painting class with a focus on technical skill in painting, visual observation, and appreciation for finer details, with a carefully crafted playlist to inspire introspection while painting. 

Best for grades: 6-12

Color Lab

Duration: 30-120 minutes

Students become color scientists as they explore how color mixes, changes, and behaves using various types of painting and drawing materials. Specific Color Lab materials will be developmentally appropriate and vary based on the age group.

Best for grades: K-12

Tailored Artist Engagements for K-12

Arts-and-IRIS-Integrated Learning Engagements for K-12

Duration 1-2 hours

Arts engagements tailored to classroom curriculum, goals, and IRIS framework.
Art mediums may include: drawing, painting, collage, assemblage, sculpture, poetry and spoken word, creative writing, and fiber arts.
Best for grades: K-12

Custom Activity - Your Choice of Topic!

Duration 1-2 hours

Working on something special? Provide a topic (any topic!) of focus and some goals, and Kias Art Room will work with you to design the right program for your group.
Art mediums may include: drawing, painting, collage, assemblage, sculpture, poetry and spoken word, creative writing, and fiber arts.
Best for grades: K-12

HEArt for Justice

Healing & Exploratory Art for Justice, YOUTH 

This program is specifically tailored for youth who are involved or recently involved with the justice system; for youth at risk of entering the justice system; and for allies looking to provide support through human connection. Topics may include Art for Our Resilience, Art for Youth Voice, Look Listen Paint, or another topic of choice. This program is best done as a series and in tandem with the school or program guidance counselors. 

Best for grades: 6-12

Private Lessons & Youth Mentoring

Private Lessons

Includes technical instruction in portraiture, landscape, still life, and/or abstraction, as well as color theory and other elements of art and design. For high school students, lessons can include assistance and guidance with college portfolios if desired. 

Maximum number of students per private lesson session: 3

No age limits! 


Private Lessons can be held at your home, virtually, or at a public working location of your choosing, like a public library or community center.

Youth Mentoring

1:1 Mentoring opportunities are available for both emerging and established young artists who work in visual and literary mediums. Mentoring is a great opportunity for youth with a passion for the arts and interest in any of the following: expanding their creative abilities, finding their (artistic) voice, developing in a specific style, or using the arts for social change. All youth  welcome, and Black and Brown youth are strongly urged to inquire! 

Duration range: 3 months, 6 months, 12 months

No age limits! 


Mentoring Sessions can be held at your home, virtually, or at a public working location of your choosing, like a public library or community center.
